HOW'D HE DO THAT?

ARMOUR

I basecoated the armour with Dark Angels Green and then highlighted it with an even mix of Dark Angels Green and Snot Green. I finished the armor with a final highlight of Snot Green.

ROBES

For the robe, I worked up from Graveyard Earth to Desert Yellow and finally applied Kommando Khaki for sharp highlights. For the black line, I basecoated with Chaos Black and then highlighted with an even mix of Chaos Black and Codex Grey.

PLASMA CANNON

I used a reversed-highlight technique for the Plasma Cannon casing. First, I basecoated it with an even mix of Shadow Grey and Chaos Black, followed by straight Chaos Black. I did them in reverse order so the darker colour "erases" a bit of the previous colour to make for a finer, sharper highlight.

I followed this progression with the plasma coil: Chaos Black, Regal Blue, Enchanted Blue, 1:3 Enchanted Blue to Space Wolves Grey, 1:1 Enchanted Blue to Space Wolves Grey, 3:1 Enchanted Blue to Space Wolves Grey, and then Space Wolves Grey for the final edges.

The plasma coil is also casting some light on the silver bit hanging above it. I tried doing some of the blue light on the armor, but it didn't really look that good over the green. I added the blue in lieu of the dark metal on the silver bit. I also used Enchanted Blue rather than the darkest or lightest shade from the coil painting itself, since the reflection isn't producing the light.

I painted the blue cables Chaos Black, highlighted with an even mix of Shadow Grey to Chaos Black, and finished with Shadow Grey. I used the following progression on the yellow cables: Bestial Brown, Vomit Brown, Golden Yellow, and then Sunburst Yellow. I painted the red cables with Dark Flesh, then Scab Red, Red Gore, and then Blood Red.

METAL

I basecoated all the silver areas with an even mix of Chaos Black and Boltgun Metal, followed by highlights with Chainmail and Mithril Silver.

For the gold areas, I used Tin Bitz and highlighted with Brazen Brass. Then, I applied a Scaly Green wash in the crevices and around the rivets. Then, I went in for a final series of highlights, working up from Shining Gold to Burnished Gold and then Mithril Silver.
