Introducing the XV8
BUILDING TAU BATTLESUITS

Page: 1|2

The assembly of an XV8 Crisis battlesuit is rather straightforward, but there are a few things you should keep in mind during the process. After all, there's nothing worse than realizing you missed step four halfway through the completion of step ten! You'll need a battlesuit, hobby knife, some plastic glue, rubber bands, patience, and a clear work area. So, get your supplies in order and read on!

Assembling Jet Pack Step One

Assembling chest Step Two

Step One: The jetpack is probably the best place to start because it's a key part that essentially holds everything together! The area where these two separate jetpack pieces meet needs to be neat and solid to hide the join, so it's really a good idea to use something like a rubber band to hold it together tightly. This simple elastic device will save you loads of headache and finger strain while you wait for everything to dry!

Step Two: Once the glue sets, take the rubber band off and glue the main chest piece onto the completed jetpack. Take care not to use an excessive amount of glue along the edges so you avoid it spilling over when the parts are pressed together.

Torso assembled Step Three

Drilling hole in base Step Four

Step Three: Once it seems dry, go back with a hobby knife and trim all the edges and overlaps so everything looks like one solid piece. Scrape along and flatten off the join between the pieces to ensure that no gap will be present. The main torso of the battlesuit is now finished, so put it aside while we work out how to make it look like this model is hovering above the ground.

Step Four: Using a hobby knife, begin making a hole towards the back of a 40mm round base. Carefully twirl the blade around like a drill to clear out a hole large enough for a long flying stand to be placed into. Once you have a nice snug fit, glue the peg into place and leave it to dry for a bit.

Base finished Step Five

Assembling Foot Step Six

Step Five: If you wish to make a battlesuit stand on its feet rather than hovering above the ground, simply ignore this last step and move on to the next step, which is the leg assembly.

Step Six: A battlesuit leg needs a foot to be glued on at the ankle. Take care to have the small third toe on each foot facing towards the centre of the body and make sure you have the proper leg piece before gluing anything, otherwise your model would look a bit awkward! Next, point the toes downward and glue 'em in place to simulate the effect of gravity as the suit flies over the ground. If you want your battlesuit to stand flat on the base, hold off on gluing the ankle in place and move onto the next step.

Attaching the legs Step Seven

Making the head Step Eight

Step Seven: Place the completed battlesuit torso piece onto the flying stand via the small hole located underneath the jetpack in the rear of the suit, you can't miss it. Now, grab a finished leg and glue the leg into the socket so that it hangs from the model in a pleasing fashion. Voila! Your battlesuit is airborne!

If you are avoiding the whole flying battlesuit thing, simply attach the legs to the body now and glue the ankles to the feet once you are satisfied with the positioning of the model.

Step Eight: The battlesuit's head is a simple matter of gluing the aerials in their proper place (there's only one way to do it) and then positioning the whole thing in a cool pose that will add character to your model. Not much left to do now!

Attaching the arms Step Nine

Attaching the weapons Step Ten

Step Nine: Before you commit to gluing the arms in place, think of what weapons and support systems you will be attaching to your battlesuit. You don't want any unpleasant surprises cropping up this late now do you, so mess around with a few possible positions before you glue the arms in place forever!

Step Ten: Once the arms are in place, just add a plasma rifle, target lock, missile pod or whatever your little Tau heart desires onto the various slots the weapons are designed to fit into. Repeat all these steps a few times and you'll soon have an entire Crisis team ready to be primed and painted. Good luck on the battlefield all you brave Shas'ui pilots out there. Fight for the Greater Good. Ko'vash Shi!
