FORCES OF EVIL POST-GAME CONCLUSIONS

Ty Finocchiaro
Ty Finocchiaro
Ty: That was a fun scenario — from my point of view, of course. For Bryan and the Fellowship, it was bit nerve-wracking there towards the end. I was happy to play yet another sixteen game turns, as my forces were infinite in number and his were slowly weakening! However, Bryan was using Might and Fate points like crazy just to stay alive until Turn eleven, when the game might end at any time. So, when we finally tied the Priority roll to the game, he was pretty happy — and so was I. Two of the Fellowship members were dog food, and the survivors were looking pretty beat-up!

The combats throughout the game were pretty even. We both had our share of glorious combat results (Gimli is mean!). However, I really don't think I would have done as well if Bryan had taken a few heroic combats with Aragorn in order to help out his friends. Instead, Bryan almost always used Aragorn's free Might point to do a heroic move. Most of the time, this move really had no effect. Once Bryan figured out how to keep Frodo from harm by surrounding him in a protective ring, there was no real need to move before me if Bryan lost priority — I simply couldn't get to Frodo.

However, in my opinion, if Bryan had taken a heroic combat when things looked grim for Legolas, he would have more than likely saved his Elven hide. If not Aragorn, then Boromir. They are both Might point machines. There were plenty of times when I just sent a single Warg to tie up these powerful Heroes and sent 3-4 after wounded characters like Sam and Legolas. Those two paid for Bryan's mistake with their lives. A heroic combat or two would have broken up the outnumbered combat and made my life tougher.

My big mistake was being a bit too anxious to use my Warg Chieftain. I essentially wasted him in attempt to wound Aragorn early in the game. It would have been much smarter to lurk on the edge of the combats and dive in to slaughter weak characters, like I had originally planned. However, the temptation to roll five dice in combat against Aragorn was too great! I forgot that all Aragorn had to do was roll a 6 and he would win the combat no matter the odds. Curses!

All in all, I have to say that I'm pleased with the result. Sure, I didn't manage to get my paws on Frodo, but The Fellowship paid a dear price to keep him alive. I took down both Legolas and Sam, Frodo barely escaped death, and everyone else used plenty of their precious Might and Fate Points. Sam (he's invincible!) and Legolas both recovered afterwards, but they're pretty weak. You can bet the forces of Darkness will be targeting them in the next scenario.
