Face The Long Dark of Moria
THE MINES OF MORIA BOXED GAME

From the initial The Lord of The Rings Preview we've gotten our first peek at the upcoming Mines of Moria boxed set which introduces players to The Lord of The Rings Strategy Battle Game. Its accompanying website is designed to support the game and includes a lot of cool stuff to accomplish that.

AN INTRODUCTION TO
THE LORD OF THE RINGS STRATEGY BATTLE GAME

The Mines of Moria has plastic miniatures including The Fellowship, Moria Goblins, and a Cave Troll. It also has plastic terrain, a full-colour rulebook (which includes all of the game rules), as well as a hobby and scenario book. The Mines of Moria is a great way to get into the Strategy Battle Game, and it will be fun for existing players to collect the models as well.

The Mines of MoriaAround October 2005, when the Mines of Moria boxed set hits store shelves, the companion website will be released online. The site, located at moria.games-workshop.com, will include a wide variety of articles, from assembly guides to painting step-by-steps to gaming scenarios to terrain examples. Though many of these articles are designed for beginner hobbyists, Games Workshop veterans will likely find useful tips and tricks as well. At the very least, they should find the scenarios of interest.

When used with the extensive contents of the boxed set, the website gives you the knowledge and scenarios you'll need to begin playing strategy battle games in Middle-earth. Let's take a closer look at some of the content that will be featured in the Mines of Moria website.

The Painting Section.

PaintingThe Painting Section of the website shows you how to paint everything you'll get in the Mines of Moria boxed set.

First, we walk you through the process to assemble your models, including the huge Cave Troll. Next, you can learn the fundamental techniques you'll need to paint any miniature, especially those from The Lord of The Rings range of Games Workshop models. Once you've mastered these basic skills, you can go through all of the step-by-step painting guides. We cover each member of The Fellowship, as well as Moria Goblins and the dreaded Cave Troll. Lastly, everyone likes looking at a few painted models for reference while painting, so we have included a miniatures gallery with detailed pictures of the models.

The Gaming Section

GamingThe Gaming Section of the new Mines of Moria website includes a huge amount of content that players will enjoy. To get new players started, there are several articles that discuss how to set up a tabletop for strategy battle games. We also cover the basic sequence of play, as well as how to read a statistics profile for your warriors.

After you have a feel for the game, you can test your gaming prowess with four scenarios of increasing difficulty that allow you to relive some of your favourite parts of The Fellowship of The Ring. After you've played the scenarios individually, we show you how to link them together in a series, where the results from one game affect the next. Lastly, this section includes a battle report that shows you how two other players fared with these scenarios.

The Terrain Section

TerrainThe Terrain Section teaches you the skills you'll need to create exciting scenery for your games in the Mines of Moria. First, we show you how to assemble the plastic terrain models included in the boxed set, from the door the Cave Troll smashes to Balin's sarcophagus. Next, we show you how to paint these models, including the stonework along with details like fallen Dwarves. After that, we show you how to make a textured game board. If that's not enough, we have a few simple terrain projects that take you beyond the boxed set and into the world of terrain building.

As you can see, the Mines of Moria website will prove a valuable supplement to the boxed set. Check out both of them when they're released in Autumn 2005.
