Desert Paradise
BUILDING AN OASIS

The barren deserts of Khemri are wide and expansive. But even in these harsh environments, life can grow thanks to the few naturally forming reservoirs known as oases, scattered throughout the sands.

An oasis is quite similar to making a pool or swamp, because it shares a lot of the same modelling steps. Check out how we went about making one by reading the simple steps below.

Step 1 Step 2

1

A piece of shaped and bevelled masonite board was used for the base. The ridge of the oasis was made with a ring of modelling clay and the edges were smoothed out by hand. Outcroppings were made from foam and were glued in place.

2

The entire surface of the piece was coated in watered down white glue and sand was sprinkled evenly over the base. When this was dry, the sand was painted Vomit Brown and drybrushed with Bleached Bone. The oasis was painted using Shadow Grey and highlighted by adding Skull White more and more to the mix out toward the edges.

Step 3 Step 4

3

When the paint was dry, Water Effects was applied until an even coat rested just under the rim around the pool, approximately 2mm deep. This was left to dry for 24 hours.

4

The finished oasis was topped off with a few palm trees and a bit of static grass to represent the rejuvenating effect the oasis has had on the barren desert terrain.
