INSPIRATION

GETTING PSYCHED
One of the hardest things to do when starting a new army is getting motivated to tackle what seems like an impossible task. There's just so many arms, legs, and skulls to assemble, let alone paint. This Tomb Kings army is by no means my first, so I know the rigours of building an army well. It's just a simple matter of getting into the right mindset and taking things one step at a time. The first step, and some would argue the most important, is to decide how the army is going to look. With this goal in mind, I set out to find some inspirational ideas from two very good sources: books and movies.

THE BOOKS
Historical books of ancient EgyptMost of the books in my current collection dealt with the architecture of ancient Egypt as opposed to the remains found within them, so it was off to the bargain section of my favourite bookstore. Not disappointed with the selection to be had, I returned home with three new tomes. These books had plenty of info on mummies along with some very useful colour photos. Ideas were now forming in my mind about how this army was going to look. For a bit of further research, I decided to relax and watch some television.

MOVIES
These days, it's hard to surf the cable channels and not find at least one program or film dedicated to the pyramids and mummies of Egypt. Most of the mummified remains featured on the various shows I managed to catch had a drab and ancient look about them. I definitely wanted to reflect this touch of realism on my models. Finally, I went to my DVD collection and spent an hour or so watching The Mummy. If that film doesn't help to get you the least bit excited about starting a Tomb Kings army, then maybe it isn't the force for you!
