The second heat in the 2005-6 Warhammer 40,000 Tournament Season saw Chaos Space Marines and Dark Eldar fighting there way to the top spots. Nick Langrick with his Chaos Space Marines just pushed ahead with 173 points, finishing one point ahead of Colin Tough's Dark Eldar.
Chaos Space Marines also earned top spot in the Best Army voting. Andy McBirnie's Nurgle Plague Marines beating off tough competition from Tyranids, Orks, Space Marines and Eldar to win the Best Army accolade.
It was great to see 134 gamers playing 402 games Warhammer 40,000 across the weekend and, thanks to the efforts of Adam Hall and his tournament team, the whole weekend went without a hitch.
I'd like to congratulate the 52 players who qualified for the Final in March 2006. 135 points was the minimum total required to qualify from this heat, so every point counted, from the Generalship and Sportsmanship scores, right down to the knowledge test.
Special mention goes to Toby McLeod, who was unable to attend on Saturday and so had no chance of qualifying, but being a die-hard hobbyist he decided to come along on the Sunday to get some games in. I'd like to thank Toby personally for his enthusiasm and I hope that day two proved to be an enjoyable one for him.
So, one more heat to go, fifty places up for grabs. Heat three has already sold out so I'd like to wish the 160 gamers coming to Warhammer World in November the best of luck. After the heat we'll post a full list of all the qualifiers - after all, qualification is an achievement in itself.
See you soon

As you can see there is a strong Chaos theme, especially of the silver variety...
LET THE TOURNAMENT COMMENCE!
Our six intrepid gamers arrived early on Saturday morning along with 128 others. Tension was quite high; as all the players knew they needed to finish in the top third in order to qualify for the Grand Final in March 2006.
After Day One, most of Team Hull was in a strong position to finish high enough to qualify, with the exception of Andy, who was looking a little shaky. We were all hopeful he would scoop a lot of points on Day Two. It wasn't all bad though, as he was nominated for 'Best Army' – a highly prestigious accolade in the Grand Tournament.
END OF DAY ONE...
After a hard day's gaming, we all retired to Bugman's bar for a couple of well deserved beverages and the famous quiz – which was won by Andy, Chris and Tim's team, closely followed by myself, Myles and Mark in second place! With the taste of victory and high spirits we were all set for the next day's gaming.
CRUNCH TIME
Day two started well, and finished even better as Myles, Chris and I were fighting it out on the top tables, closely followed by Mark and Tim. Even better though, Andy's Death Guard were slaughtering all before them, landing him two huge victories putting him in a really strong position to qualify.
The final game ended with a mighty face-off on Table One (this is the top table in the tournament) between Myles and I. The winner was certain to take first place and the loser, no chance of finishing in the top 3. It was a real shame to play a great friend and member from the same club at this point; however we were both guaranteed to qualify so decided to give it our all and see whose iron men were the best...
WHAT A RESULT!
The final results were:

There was much rejoicing as we all qualified easily. Perhaps our greatest achievement was Andy winning 'Best Army' with his magnificent Crone World Death Guard and raising his game to make it through to the final comfortably. I'm sure all of you that come to the Hobby Centre will be proud of the sterling effort we all put in for Games Workshop Hull on the 40K gamers map!
