WARHAMMER 40,000 GRAND TOURNAMENT GRAND FINAL REVIEW
Scott Bennett is a member of the 1st Company Veterans, a group of friendly, dedicated players, who meet every Thursday night, and who get the use of the awesome Warhammer World to play GW games such as Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer, The Lord of The Rings, and the many varied Specialist Games. This year, a GT final pact was made between its members: "Let's take Tau and see what we can do for the Greater Good!"

Game 1 saw me playing a hard-as-nails Space Marine army: 3 Predators, 3 Dreadnoughts, 3 Speeders and Fury of the Ancients are all I remember. The game was Secure and Control, and by turn 4, most of my Hammerheads were smoking wrecks! The Emperor was certainly stopping Tau expansion in this game and I lost 13/7.
Game 2 brought a smile to my face. I was to be playing one of the 1st Company Veteran founder members Scott Baird. Scott is a great guy and a formidable general. He was also playing Iron Warriors with 3 teams of 2 Obliterators... would my Hammerhead tanks ever get to shoot? The answer was no. A great game followed and when the dust settled, Scott had won 17/3. Next time Mr Baird!
Game 3 had me claiming my first victory (you'll notice that the GT isn't about winning or doing well for most, it's about having fun). This game saw me playing probably the finest painted Mentor Legion Space Marine army I have ever seen. Result 13/7 to me.

DAY TWO
Game 4 pited my army against non-other than White Dwarf Editor, Owen Rees, with his awesomely painted and converted Imperial Guard army. Owen is a great guy, player and sporting opponent and an exciting game followed. Memories of this game include mortar teams decimating Kroot, airborne Guard blowing up 2 Hammerheads through daring use of Deep Strike, and Crisis teams saving the day through their own timely Deep Strikes. When the dice stopped rolling, a solid draw resulted.
Game 5 was never really ressolved as I came up against a massive Eldar Seer council. Sadly, time ran out before we could finish the game!
And Game 6... Well I still cannot believe I won that game. The mission was Take and Hold in which my opponent would take first turn, leading the Emperor's finest - The Black Templars. Gulp! The dice gods were with me, however, as railgun shots destroyed his Land Raider Crusader in turn 2 and missile pods took care of the rest. Stunned, I went on to get a massacre!
Final result: Two great days of meeting awesome players and having great games! I can't wait until next year!
