Probably the most beloved of all the Tyranids
is the Carnifex. It was nigh indestructible, shooty,
choppy,
and the model was super-cool. For years, these models
did the bidding of the Hive Mind without question.
Every
Tyranid player worth his salt had at least one in his
army. Today, the Carnifex has evolved into an
amazing,
multi-part plastic kit for players to gawk at and use
to great effect on the battlefield.
BIOVORES
Biovores filled the long-range support role that
the Tyranid army desperately needed at the time.
As a bonus,
Biovores gave birth (literally) to the dreaded Spore
Mine model. Sure, the dang things rarely hit their
intended
target, but since the Spore Mines drifted about the
battlefield after being fired, they caused all sorts
of headaches for enemy troop movement.
ZOANTHROPES
Possibly the strangest Tyranid of all, the Zoanthrope
was a walking psychic death machine. The first incarnation
of the model actually had to move around on a pair
of
legs - what a pain. Guess you have to learn
to walk before you can float...
