Painted Tyranid Gaunt

PAINTING YOUR TYRANIDS

Below, you will find a simple-but-effective colour scheme using only seven colours. Follow the detailed instructions and check out the stage-by-stage images for reference as you paint your model. Don't fret if the model doesn't come out picture perfect in the end, painting takes time and practice to master. Just do the best you can each time and be open to learning new techniques from others. Before you know it, you'll be quite an accomplished painter with models you'll be proud to game with!

1

After priming the model with Chaos Black Spray Primer, apply a Liche Purple basecoat on the areas of smooth skin (avoid the joints, ribbed areas, and exoskeleton plates). Paint the tongue, joints, and ribbed areas Warlock Purple. Paint the base with an appropriate basecoat to match the rest of the army (we chose Scorched Brown in this example).

2

Time for some layered highlights. With an even mix of Liche Purple and Tentacle Pink, highlight the smooth skin. Highlight the ribbed areas, joints, and tongue with an even mix of Warlock Purple and Tentacle Pink. Highlight the base with straight Bestial Brown. Finally, lightly drybrush the exoskeleton plates with Codex Grey.

3

Now, finish the highlights. With a 1:2 mix of Liche Purple to Tentacle Pink, highlight the smooth skin. Highlight the ribbed areas with Tentacle Pink. Apply a heavily watered-down wash of Black Ink to the exoskeleton plates to give them an insect-like sheen. Drybrush the base with Vomit Brown.

4

Finish up with the details. Paint the teeth and eyes Skull White, and apply Varnish to the mouth to give it the look of a slavering, hungry monster. Drybrush the base with Bleached Bone and you're done.
