THE POWER IS YOURS
There are two common ways to win with Vampire Counts: superior combat capabilities, or combat resolution combined with the effects of Fear. Either kill more of his troops than he kills of yours, or have such a high combat resolution that he will have to take a Break test anyway. Some would probably argue that a very strong magic phase is a third way of winning, but I would rather say that a strong magic phase makes it more likely that you will succeed with one of the aforementioned tactics. Magic alone rarely wins battles, but properly used it can really augment your army. I prefer not to trust magic on its own, but like to keep it in mind when I plan my battles all the same.
These are my usual game plans, but if you have created different characters then they might not suit you. If you are playing against an army with little magic and no units with magical attacks, then it could work to have lots of Ethereal units. Give a Vampire Spectral Form and send him off with a unit of Cairn Wraiths. Even without a rank bonus this unit will be very dangerous. If you have many mobile characters then it can be worth trying to go around both flanks. Leave a strong contingent of Skeletons and Zombies in the middle and then swing round and catch him in a pincer movement with your flanking Black Knights. There are many options and if you can find one that your opponent hasn't met yet then you will have the strategic advantage.
Good luck and may your Undead minions serve you well!
