These loathsome little creatures often make their homes near bogs or marshes. They are naturally adept at swimming and navigating through the murky waters that dominate such regions. Scuttlehags are crafty predators who use their chameleon skin to hide in the undergrowth while they manipulate a prehensile tail to lure their prey within striking distance. Oddly, rather than trying to mimic the actions of a smaller creature with these appendages, these enigmatic creatures instead attract their prey by vibrating their tail so rapidly that it creates a resonant, melodic tone that inexplicably lures their quarry closer. Scuttlehags are indeed interesting specimens that deserve further research, that is, if one could ever be procured from its natural environment for study.

Scuttlehag

Jake Landis created these interesting little creatures out of Green Stuff and pieces of wire. Jake started by making the bodies and pushing the wire tails in. He let these pieces dry before attaching the limbs and gluing the completed (and fully dried) creature to the base. To add to their camouflaged appearance, Jake chose to model them on 40-mm dioramic bases complete with added aquarium plants.
