WHAT IS WHITE DWARF?
White Dwarf is the longest running gaming magazine in the country, having being launched way back in the 70s by Games Workshop founders Ian Livingstone and Steve Jackson as a follow up to their fanzine, Owl and Weasel.
Over the years White Dwarf has covered many different games, but though its focus has changed over time, it has always been, and remains, completely dedicated to gaming.
GAMING
The main focus of White Dwarf is our three main gaming systems – The Lord of The Rings, Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000. The magazine is divided into sections, three of which focus on one of these games. Within, we print numerous additional rules for all three. These include rules for alternative army lists, scenarios, characters, troop types, battle zones and more. In our regular columns Warhammer Chronicles and Chapter Approved, we provide new and exciting ways to play Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000, while The Lord of The Rings section carries a wide variety of new gaming material every month.
BACKGROUND
Every month we delve deeper into our gaming worlds, revealing the secret histories of the creatures and peoples of Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000 and Middle-earth.
MODELLING AND PAINTING
You’ll find some of the finest miniatures in the world in White Dwarf, painted and modelled by Golden Demon winners and Games Workshop’s own highly talented ’Eavy Metal team. Generals, too, of well-modelled armies grace our pages, while the White Dwarf team also produce special conversions for games. You’ll also find many articles on terrain building. All of these features contain a wealth of information on unusual or advanced techniques so you can get the best from your miniatures.
BATTLE REPORTS
One
of White Dwarf’s most enduringly popular articles is our Battle Report.
Every month you can join us and spectate as mighty armies clash upon the field
of conflict. We have a variety of battles, from tournament-style games fought
by some of the most renowned generals in the community to story-driven battles
featuring interesting scenarios or special rules.
THE NEWS AND THE ASTRONOMICAN
White Dwarf’s remaining two sections, one at the front, one at the back, contain all you need to know in order to enjoy the hobby to its full. The News carries details of upcoming armies, new games, miniatures and happenings. The Astronomican contains further information, including a full list of all our stores, components for the conversions and classic models we have featured that month plus our letters page, so you can have your say too!
