Ambushed in Athel Loren
WOOD ELF TACTICS

Ken Kennedy, Veteran hobbyist and Wood Elf player waxes lyrical of the new units available to Wood Elf armies and the tactics that can be employed by the forest dwelling warriors.

The Wood Elves mobilise their forces

It has been a long time coming, but the Wood Elves are finally here! As a Wood Elf player of old (in fact, it was my first Warhammer army), I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the denizens of Athel Loren. Thus, I'm happy to see that they have been redesigned as a force to be reckoned with. With a few new units and alterations to a few classic units, Wood Elf generals can now build armies with huge blocks of Elven spearmen and archers – forces made entirely of woodland entities, or armies that deviate significantly from what most players think of as a standard Warhammer army.

In the past, the Wood Elves were always thought of as the "shooty" army. Even with this distinction, they still retained a lot of the characteristics of the other Warhammer armies. Now, the new Wood Elves can still be fielded as a "shooty" army or as a standard Warhammer army with blocks of Core troops. However, the strength of the new Wood Elf army list lies in the fact that it offers a lot of room for experimentation and unique army development. Like the Ogres, the Wood Elves can be fielded in ways that no Warhammer army ever has been before. Imagine an army made up entirely of Skirmishers, Fast Cavalry, and Flyers! An exceptionally mobile army like this would almost be as frightening to play with as it would be to play against… almost.
