WOOD ELF TACTICS
Moving on from a pure Forest Spirit Wood Elf army, Ken Kennedy takes a look at the tactics involved in fielding an army comprised entirely of the Elven folk.
Since we made an entire army out of Forest Spirits, we can't let those regular
Wood Elves feel slighted. Let's see how an army comprised entirely of Asrai
(except for those Forest Spirit Wild Riders) will do on the battlefield. This
themed army is a great complement to the army of trees. In times of woe, the
two can join forces to repel invaders – in times of internal strife,
they can be pitted against each other for mastery of Athel Loren.
The Asrai are the physical opposite of the Forest Spirits. For the most part, the Elves are slight, poorly armoured, and not really built to survive long, drawn-out combats. However, what they lack in strength and durability, they more than make up for in skill, finesse, and guile. Elves have exceptional manoeuvrability and are difficult to get into combat if they don't want to fight. A significant number of the units are excellent at infiltrating behind enemy lines to slow down or harass the advancing army. The Elf warriors that are equipped for combat are exceptionally skilled and have multiple and varied attacks to make up for their lack of strength. When you only fight when you want, and can spring into battle from multiple sides at the same time, brute force turns out not to be everything.
